Since December 2005, the Colorado Lawyers Committee has coordinated the legal component for Project Homeless Connect, a one-day event sponsored by the City of Denver that connects homeless individuals to services including: public benefits, medical care, housing and employment opportunities and legal assistance. To view a short video overview of the event, click here.
Volunteer attorneys, paralegals and law students provide legal information and referrals to homeless participants. Many volunteers also assist with the “Homeless Court” which is held as part of the event and allows individuals to resolve outstanding warrants for violations of Denver’s City Ordinance. Attorneys, paralegals and law students are invited to participate. Areas of law addressed commonly include:
- Family
- Criminal
- Housing
- Consumer and bankruptcy
- Employment
Project Homeless Connect is a terrific opportunity to assist those in need while also broadening your own knowledge by working with experienced and committed lawyers. Project Homeless Connect is co-sponsored by the Colorado Lawyers Committee and the Colorado Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel.
What Volunteers Do
Volunteers help determine significant legal issues, refer individuals to legal services, and answer other questions about the legal process. Volunteers do not provide legal advice or representation. You do not need expertise in a particular area of law in order to participate. You will be paired with an experienced volunteer and a video of a recent training is available for your review (request the video when you sign up to volunteer).
Other volunteers will assist with Homeless Court and represent individuals before a Denver County Court Judge. These are individuals who seek to enter a plea on outstanding criminal warrants for violation of Denver municipal ordinances.

Who We Serve
Individuals are served on a first-come, first-serve basis. Most participants arrive with very specific questions and legal issues. You’ll be surprised how much assistance you can provide to someone who is confused or unfamiliar with the legal system.
Schedule
Project Homeless Connect is held once or twice each year, as scheduled by the City of Denver. The date of the next event hasn’t been confirmed.
