Application for the Colorado Lawyers Committee Young Lawyers Division Board

The Colorado Lawyers Committee has two openings on its Young Lawyers Division Board. To serve on the CLC YLD Board, you must be under age 40 or have been in practice less than eight years. In addition, only lawyers at law firms that contribute to the Colorado Lawyers Committee are eligible (see list of contributing law firms on this website).  If you do not practice at a contributing law firm, we invite you to become a part of the general membership of the CLC YLD by completing the YLD General Membership Application.

The following positions are currently available on the YLD Board:

  • Hate Crimes Education Team Co-Chair:  This team works with the Hate Crimes Education Task Force co-chairs Tarek Saad (Squire Patton Boggs (US) LLP), Phyllis Wan (Charter Communications), John McHugh (Reilly Pozner LLP), and Beth Ann Lennon (Sherman & Howard L.L.C.) to expand and strengthen the longstanding CLC Hate Crimes Education program. The team has attended and participated in Hate Crimes presentations (the script is on this website) and helped coordinate our new partnership (for outreach to minority communities) with the US Department of Justice. In the future, the team will expand outreach to teachers, schools, and volunteers. This team will also partner with the Colorado Bar Association Young Lawyers Division and their Bullyproof Anti-Bullying Initiative to solicit feedback and implement ideas to reduce instances of bullying, hate crimes, and bias in Colorado schools.  You will be working with the current YLD Hate Crimes Team Co-Chair, John McHugh (Reilly Pozner LLP).
  • Special Projects Team Co-Chair:  An excellent opportunity for transactional attorneys, this team helps organize the twice-yearly Nonprofit Legal Audit Clinic co-sponsored by the CLC and the Association of Corporate Counsel–Colorado Chapter. The Legal Audit Clinic is a half-day program for small nonprofits with limited operating budgets where teams of volunteer transactional attorneys review a checklist with participating nonprofits to evaluate their legal health. This team also works on other special projects, including the Nonpartisan Election Call Center. Team members help facilitate the trainings, coordinate volunteers and organize the logistics, they also answer phones at the call center.  You will be working with the current YLD Special Projects Team Co-Chair, Tenley Oldak (Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, LLP).

If you’re interested in serving on the YLD Board, fill out the application below.  Applications will be accepted through October 24, 2017 with a decision expected in early November.
