The Immigration Task Force

For almost 20 years, the Colorado Lawyers Committee has supported the efforts of the San Luis Valley Immigrant Resource Center to provide low cost immigration services to the local population, including overseeing services provided, training its staff, and providing referrals to pro bono attorneys. The Task Force also helps provide guidance to individuals at Legal Night seeking assistance with a range of immigration issues including Colorado Senate Bill 13-251, which authorizes the issuance of a Colorado driver’s license, instruction permit or identification card to those individuals who either cannot demonstrate lawful presence in the U.S. or can only demonstrate temporary lawful presence. Other areas of interest at Legal Night are questions regarding the influx of unaccompanied children coming to the U.S. and executive orders about Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans.  The Task Force also co-sponsors (with RMIAN and the Immigration Section of the Colorado Bar Association) a training on Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) for non-immigration lawyers to learn to represent unaccompanied immigrant children.
